The Cape Breton Music Industry Hall of Fame announced some new inductions this morning.
New inductees include the legendary fiddler Buddy MacMaster of Judique, singer and Nashville songwriter Gordie Sampson of Big Pond, plus Glace Bay natives Allister MacGillivray who wrote “Out on the Mira” and my radio buddy Bill MacNeil.
Gordie has co-written many huge Hot Country hits including “Jesus Take the Wheel” for Carrie Underwood and “Knockin’ Boots” for Luke Bryan, among many more.
Bill and I worked at CKPE-FM Cape Country in Sydney in the 1980’s and he is so deserving of this recognition for helping the local music scene now on the community radio station he owns, COAST-FM in Sydney.
Bill says: “To be mentioned alongside fellow inductees such as the legendary Buddy MacMaster, Gordie Sampson and Allister MacGillivray is simply overwhelming. I have had the privilege to play their tunes and songs on radio for many years. Thank you CBMIC and everyone involved with the Cape Breton Music Industry Hall of Fame for this tremendous honour.”
The Cape Breton Music Industry Hall of Fame 2026 induction ceremony is this June 18th at Centre 200 in Sydney.
