Danny Grant died at age 73 on Monday night. He was the second Head Coach in Mooseheads history in 1997 and 1998 for a season.
Grant was a star forward in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota North Stars, Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings. He won the Stanley Cup with Montreal in 1968. He was traded to Minnesota and suited up for his first full season in 1968-69, winning the Calder Trophy as NHL Rookie of the Year. Grant had his biggest season statistically in 1974-75 with the Red Wings when he scored 50 goals.
He returned to his hometown in Fredericton to coach the University of New Brunswick men’s hockey team in 1995 and 1996 and took over with the Mooseheads following the departure of Clem Jodoin.
Danny was the Herd’s coach the first year I started announcing at the Mooseheads games. He was a friendly easy-going guy always with a great hockey story.
Hot Country sends our condolences to the Grant family.
Rest in Hockey Peace Danny.
