The Nova Scotia flag that flew with the Canadian Snowbirds is heading to a woman in Ontario after her top bid of $5,300 won out in an eBay auction.
Cpl. Matt Mackenzie is an Aircraft Structural Technician with the Snowbirds team, he grew up in Riversdale, just outside Truro and carried the flag with him during the Snowbirds recent “Operation Inspiration” flight over Nova Scotia.
He decided to put it up for auction on eBay as a fundraiser for the Nova Scotia SPCA in memory of Halifax’s Captain Jennifer Casey, the team’s publicity officer.
Matt said he had two trains of thought about how high the bidding would go – from a few hundred dollars to some higher amount – but he never thought it would go as high as it did as he wasn’t expecting $5,300.
In addition to the flag, the successful bidder will also get a few signed Snowbirds pictures and other collectibles along with a squadron coin and some team patches.
Way to go Matt, I know Jenn would love this as she was an animal lover.
