Jodi Isenor prefers to do his running on nature trails that usually offer extra challenges like loose or jagged rocks, sudden twists and turns and gnarly tree roots.
He recently did the Barkley Marathon’s 100-mile trail race in Tennessee.
Now the 45-year-old trail runner from Seabright is temporarily trading in his favourite backcountry sport for a road run around the Cabot Trail.
And he’s doing the scenic 300-kilometre run for a good cause. He’ll be raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation which helps children with life-threatening illnesses realize their dreams.
He hit the highway before sun-up this morning, beginning from the Red Barn at the junction of the Trans-Canada Highway and the Middle River Road, travelling in a counter-clockwise direction.
Jodi says the idea came when someone asked him why he runs so much and he told him he does it because he can and because maybe some day he won’t be able to anymore. He says, “Sure, I’ll hit some rough patches during my run, but it’s nothing compared to what these children are going through.”
Each wish costs between 10 and 14-thousand dollars. Jodi has surpassed his 10-grand fundraising goal, he’s already raised over 12 thousand dollars! Visit the Nova Scotia Trail Running Facebook page to follow Jodi’s progress in Cape Breton.
Nice work Jodi!
