Halifax has given the thumbs up to live-streaming games in local arenas.
The municipality had been working with Hockey Nova Scotia to find a way to allow sports parents to watch their kids play, and late Wednesday afternoon the green light was given.
Amy Walsh is the executive director at Hockey Nova Scotia and says “We’ve heard from members definitely, quite loud and clear over the last couple of days.”
Those voices prompted the change.
Live-streaming will be permitted at the discretion of the renter.
Signage will also be put up in the various venues to alert people their activity could be live streamed or digitally recorded.
HRM officials say the rule prohibiting the live-streaming of events isn’t new and it’s in place to protect the privacy of the players.
The rule change is effective immediately, meaning those memories made on the ice won’t go unnoticed any longer.
The city says player safety is still their priority.
This is great news for hockey parents and grandparents who’ll get to see their kids play and make more hockey memories.
Both my sons hockey careers are over, but as a former hockey parent, I feel for all the players and families going through this COVID season with all the changes they’ve had to endure.
Hopefully we can get back to normal next season!
