Today on April 12th, 1980 Terry Fox dipped his artificial foot into the Atlantic Ocean in St. John’s, Newfoundland, starting the “Marathon of Hope” transforming the course of cancer research in Canada.
To date close to $800 million dollars has been raised in his name.
I had the opportunity to visit Terry’s Mile One Monument in St. John’s in 2016, quite an honour.
Here’s Terry in 1980 on Robie St. in Halifax.
Plans are underway for the 41st Terry Fox Run for cancer research this September 19th.
Thanks to Terry and cancer research many have beaten the disease including my son Trent who is a cancer survivor of children’s kidney cancer.
To think Terry ran an average of 42 kilometres a day (26 miles) through six provinces is still hard to comprehend.
After 143 days and 5,373 kilometres (3,339 miles) Terry stopped running outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario when his cancer sadly returned.

Thanks again Terry!
