RCMP say a fisherman is safe after being rescued by an off-duty officer and retired member who spotted his boat capsizing in St. Margaret’s Bay last weekend.
Sgt. Rick Plume and his wife, retired RCMP constable Lisa Spracklin, told police they were on their sailboat shortly after 1 p.m. on Saturday near Clam Island when they saw the man frantically bailing out water as his boat began to capsize.
RCMP say the man grabbed a lifejacket as he fell into the water and tried to swim to shore.
The pair used their boarding ladder to pull him onto their sailboat and provided him with a warm jacket so he could change out of his wet clothes.
The man told them he had been out fishing mackerel when his boat began taking on water.
The Mounties say the man was taken to his truck near Boutiliers Point, as he did not seem to be experiencing any serious effects from his time in the water.
