Work is underway to search the grounds of the former residential school in Shubenacadie.
The Mi’kmaq Rights Initiative and Kwilmu’kw Maw-klusuaqn Negotiation Office (KMKNO) indicate no remains have been found at the Nova Scotia site but the work continues.
A release was issued by Mi’kmaq Rights Initiative after the remains of 215 children were found in Kamloops last week.

Premier Iain Rankin stated on Monday that efforts to survey the grounds have been ongoing since 2019.
“We are a partner in that work alongside KMKNO and we will continue to be a partner in the working they’re doing there,” explained Rankin.
The Shubenacadie Residential School was open from 1930 to 1967, it was the only Residential School in the Maritimes.
It was first managed by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Halifax and later the Missionary Oblates of Marie Immaculate, and staffed by the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul of Halifax
Flags are at half-mast at schools, universities and government buildings to honour the children found in unmarked graves in Kamloops.
