The province is opening a special COVID-19 vaccine clinic for newcomers at a Halifax mosque.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang says the clinic at the Ummah Masjid and Community Centre is set for June 19.
Dr. Strang says it’s aimed at newcomers and the Muslim community but is open to everyone.
“People can book by calling the toll-free line,” he says. “They can ask for an interpreter and get services in more than 125 languages.”
Dr. Strang says this comes as the province ramps up efforts to identify and improve access to vaccines in communities where uptake is lower.
He says it’s important they use the best method to get vaccine into each community.
“It’s a great example of how we can build partnerships with specific parts of our community, with specific needs, to access vaccine in unique ways.”
Dr. Strang says it’s fundamentally important we get 75 per cent of the total population vaccinated.
