MacDonald Bridge: from Halifax Harbour Bridges
Evening closures are now in effect for the city’s only bike route across the harbour.
The MacDonald Bridge bike lane is set to be closed overnight, from 7 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.
Officials with Halifax Harbour Bridges say the closures are to do work on the bike lane approach, which wasn’t redone during the Big Lift.
Steve Snider, HHB general manager and CEO, says they understand it is a critical transport route.
“Which is why we have chosen to complete the project during the evening and overnight, when traffic is considerably reduced,” he says. “We understand that any closure is inconvenient, and thank you for your patience in ensuring the bike lane is well maintained.”
Officials say the walking path will remain open and cyclists will still be able to walk their bikes across the bridge during the construction.
