MacKay Bridge: from Halifax Harbour Bridges
You might be paying more to cross the bridges soon.
Halifax Harbour Bridges has applied to increase toll rates on the MacDonald Bridge and MacKay Bridge for the first time in a decade.
The Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board is scheduled to hold a public hearing Monday on the proposed hike.
If approved, the change would increase the price for most users:
-Increasing regular crossings from $1.00 to $1.25
-Increasing MACPASS rates from 80 cents to $1.00
-Increasing commercial vehicle crossings, using either cash or MACPASS, by 25 per cent per axle
-Increasing MACPASS account automatic and manual fill-ups from $15 to $20
However, some rates aren’t being changed and some fees are being reduced:
-No changes for buses designed to carry 16 or more passengers
-Elimination of the $1 monthly MACPASS administration fee
Two full days have been put aside for proceedings, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.
