The province has announced a $6.1 million investment over four years to further encourage forestry innovation at Nova Scotia Community College.
Government says the new Centre of Forest Innovation at NSCC’s Truro campus will advance the shift to ecological forestry practices and help train the next generation of professionals.
The money is being delivered as part of the $50 million Forestry Innovation Transition Trust fund, and will bring a simulator immersion lab and demonstration woodlot to the campus.
The province says the initiative responds to several recommendations of Professor Bill Lahey’s review of forestry practices, including encouraging innovation and enhancing training of the workforce.
The centre is expected to be open for the 2022 school year.
