The MLA in Cumberland-North will run in the next election as an independent.
Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin was kicked out of the Tory caucus for her role in a blockade of the Trans-Canada Highway on June 22.
Smith-McCrossin now sits as an independent after she refused to issue an apology her involvement in the blockade. She made the announcement regarding her political future on Facebook on Monday morning.
Smith-McCrossin issued an ultimatum to Premier Iain Rankin to lift travel restrictions with New Brunswick or face a blockade near the border of the two provinces.
The move led to multiple protests over a 24-hour period which forced the cancellation of medical appointments and shipment of supplies.
