Rain ahead of tropical storm Elsa has begun to push into parts of the Maritimes.
The centre of Elsa was located about southwest of Atlantic City, New Jersey, at 3 o’clock this morning.
It’s expected to come up along the Bay of Fundy as a post-tropical storm. Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and PEI will feel the effects tonight and into tomorrow. They remain under a Tropical Cyclone Information Statement.
New Brunswick is expected to see the brunt of the storm with the entire province under a rainfall warning. About 50-100 mm of rainfall is expected.
The remnants of the storm will bring wind gusts of about 60-70 km per hour to parts of Nova Scotia and up to 50 mm of rain near the Bay of Fundy coastline Friday night before the system heads off to Newfoundland. Most regions will see between 5-15 mm.
Environment Canada is calling for about 15 mm of rain for the Halifax area on Friday, with winds gusting to between 40-60 km per hour overnight. Showers will end Saturday morning.
The national weather forecaster will provide further updates at 9 a.m. on Friday.
