The official opposition says the situation surrounding ambulance shortages isn’t improving in Nova Scotia.
It comes after 34 “Code Criticals” were issued by the paramedics union on the weekend, which alert the public when there is a shortage of ambulances in certain areas.
Health Minister Zach Churchill has stated he expected the situation would improve after the province implemented the Fitch report which has 68 recommendations to improve EHS services.
PC MLA Colton Leblanc says the province has gone quiet on the issue and adds the problem pre-dates COVID.
“Government can provide all the excuses they want when it comes to healthcare, but it’s a failure plan and a failure to react appropriately,” Leblanc tells our newsroom.
The alerts stopped after the province committed to making changes to the EHS system in April but they started back up because progress has been slow.
We have reached out to Nova Scotia Health for comment on the ambulance shortages but have yet to hear back.
