The Royal Canadian Navy has confirmed a second case of COVID-19 among crew members aboard HMCS Halifax.
The navy says in a news release this is the only other case that has been identified, so the majority of the 237 crew members who have tested negative can now go home.
They’re required to self-isolate for at least seven days and will have to undergo testing two more times.
The crew had been fully vaccinated prior to the cases being identified.
The two crew members who tested positive will remain in isolation in military housing at Canadian Forces Base Halifax for the next two weeks.
The ship docked in Halifax on Monday morning following a six-month deployment on the Mediterranean Sea as part of NATO’s “Operation Reassurance.”
Sailors were allowed to go ashore when the vessel made a stop in Reykjavik, Iceland, before sailing home.
It was announced just before the ship arrived in Halifax that crew members would not be able to leave the ship right away to reunite with their loved ones as a positive case had been identified on board.
The individual was asymptomatic and self-isolating.
