Two people are facing a slew of firearms charges after police seized a handgun from a car they pulled over in Halifax on the weekend.
Police carried out the traffic stop on Walter Havill Drive on Sunday as part of an ongoing firearms investigation.
They seized the handgun along with ammunition and arrested a man and woman.
30-year-old Jordan Rodrigues has been charged with the following offences:
- Unsafe handling of a firearm
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized
- Unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle
- Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
- Possession of firearm where serial number has been altered defaced or removed
Rodrigues has been scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Monday.
34-year-old Chimera Downey is set to appear in court at a later date to face the following charges:
- Unsafe handling of a firearm
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized
- Unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle
- Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
- Possession of firearm where serial number has been altered defaced or removed
