The Mounties say a 29-year-old Stellarton man is facing a slew of charges after an officer was dragged by a stolen police car while investigating a home invasion in Colchester County.
Police were called to a West Annan residence just after 6 a.m. on Sunday after a resident awoke to a noise in his home and was confronted by a man who had a weapon when he went downstairs.
The owner told the man to leave and returned upstairs.
The suspect then tracked down a neighbour to get help with his vehicle that was off the road, but they couldn’t get it running.
When the neighbour found out the suspect had broken into the nearby home he called police.
About three hours later, RCMP found the suspect hitchhiking on Highway 104 near Wentworth. Police say he acted like he might have a firearm and appeared to want the officer to shoot him.
He managed to run off and take the police cruiser, dragging the officer about 10 feet before they were thrown onto the road.
The officer was able to track down the suspect and arrest him thanks to help from a driver who lent them their car. The suspect had crashed into another vehicle about 5 km away.
The police officer received minor injuries and was released from hospital the same day. No other injuries were reported.
