Sprint Kayaker Michelle Russell of Fall River is heading to the semi-finals in the women’s single kayak 500m at the Tokyo Olympics.
She secured third place at the quarter-finals on Tuesday after finishing her heat race in 1:51.375.
The semi-finals take place on Wednesday night.
Meantime, Halifax Kayaker and Olympic veteran Mark de Jonge came close to advancing to the semi-finals.
He placed third in the Men’s Kayak Single 200m quarter-finals overnight with a time of 35.462. Only the top two get to advance.
Britain’s Liam Heath took first place and the Russian Olympic Committee’s Evgenii Lukantsov finished in second.
De Jonge competes in the K4 500 coming up on Thursday.
The Tokyo Olympics mark his third and final games.
