If you hit the streets of Halifax for homecoming parties on Saturday, Dalhousie University doesn’t want to see you in class for one week.
Provost and Vice-President Academic Frank Harvey has sent out a memo asking students not to attend any activities on campus for seven days and to avoid public spaces in general.
Harvey says the parties jeopardize the university’s ability to provide safe in-person learning this fall.
“We take this measure knowing it will likely be imperfect, but our top priority must remain the health, safety and well-being of our Dalhousie community,” says Harvey. “We have seen a significant increase in COVID cases among 20-to-39-year-olds in the Halifax area. This weekend’s illegal gathering poses a potential risk to our ability to continue with a safe, sustainable in-person learning experience this fall.”
Dal also wants you to get tested.

Even with a negative result, you’re still asked to stay away from campus for the full week.
Harvey urges anyone who stopped by the parties to show respect to the community by following the directive.
The school is set to provide another COVID-19 update on Monday.
