Dalhousie’s student union wants you to get tested for COVID if you partied in the streets of Halifax on the weekend.
The union says in a statement what we do now will be vital in preventing a potential surge in cases.
It’s working to ramp up rapid testing, and says you should get one even if double-vaxxed.
“In the coming weeks, the DSU is working to lead an extremely large, community-wide effort to increase access to rapid testing,” the statement says. “All students are welcome to volunteer. We thank those of you who continue to prioritize the wellbeing of our community.”
Thousands attended the unsanctioned street parties on Jennings Street near campus on Saturday.
The student union says it will take time to repair the damage.
“The actions of some students this weekend do not represent the values of students at large, and we will have to work to repair damaged relationships,” says the DSU. “We will not see news stories about the students who went out after the party to collect trash, those who volunteered on campus, or who found other ways to celebrate. To those students, we see you and we thank you.”
Some of the partygoers could be disciplined by Dal for violating its code of conduct for students.
Dal has asked those who were at those parties to stay away from campus until Monday.
