The province’s doctors have come out in favour of a vaccine mandate for healthcare workers.
Doctors Nova Scotia officially endorsed the Canadian Medical Association’s call for mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations Friday.
Dr. Heather Johnson, president of Doctors Nova Scotia, said doctors have long been strongly in support of vaccines and were some of the first in our province to roll up their sleeves.
“Doctors, and all others who work in a health-care setting, have an obligation to keep our patients safe and set an example for the public, showing that vaccines are safe and effective.”
She said doctors already need a slew of other vaccinations to practice, and this is just one more.
They go farther than the province though, CMA want to see all mandatory vaccinations for healthcare workers across the country.
Dr. Johnson said it’s the right thing to do.
“Some patients cannot receive the COVID-19 vaccine. In some cases the vaccine is less effective for people with underlying health conditions,” she said. “These are the patients we must protect in our day-to-day work.”
Dr. Johnson said she urges everyone to get vaccinated to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their neighbours.
