The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre says the search is continuing for the 54-year-old missing captain of a fishing vessel.
The JRCC were notified of a man-overboard situation from a fishing vessel south of Yarmouth around 4 a.m. yesterday morning.
They say fog impacted the aircrafts aiding in the search, and were hopeful that conditions would improve.
An additional Coast Guard vessel, the CCGS Sir William Alexander, and several commercial vessels have joined the search, according to tweets from the JRCC.
The vessel has been identified as the FV Miss Janet. The family of the missing captain has asked that his name not be released at this time.
The three crew members slept overnight on the vessel while the captain stayed awake in the wheelhouse. When they woke they were unable to find him.
The vessel was transmitting from Shelburne to Saulnierville when the captain went missing.
The JRCC said in a tweet that at the time, winds were light and the seas were calm.
The man is from the Sipekne’katik First Nation, the band confirming that yesterday to our newsroom.
Chief Mike Sack says they’re focused on supporting the community at this time.
