The PC government is expected to release its plan this week to tackle Nova Scotia’s affordable housing problem.
Opposition parties called for action from Progressive Conservative Premier Tim Houston in legislature last week.
Many are worried about those who are living in tent cities as the overnight temperatures quickly turn colder.
Houston has said he doesn’t believe permanent rent control is the right solution over the long term.
He wants to see a boost in the affordable housing supply, which could mean partnering with those who are trying to increase the stock, like municipalities, developers, and not-for-profits.
The current rent cap is set to expire in February or when the provincial state of emergency ends.
