A school in Dartmouth is temporarily shutting down due to COVID-19.
A news release says Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang has recommended Dartmouth South Academy close to contain the spread.
“While our goal is to keep students learning in the classroom, I was clear that if stronger measures were needed, like closing a school, we would not hesitate to act,” Dr. Strang says. “The regional medical officer of health team has been closely monitoring this situation and they are recommending a temporary closure to contain the spread.”
The government’s website dedicated to providing details on COVID-19 exposures connected to public schools shows four notices have been issued since October 10th.
Dartmouth South Academy will be shut down until at least Friday, October 22nd.
The principal will be in touch with staff and impacted families about at-home learning.
Additional details will be released later this week regarding reopening plans.
“I understand and appreciate how stressful this pandemic can be on families and staff,” Education Minister Becky Druhan says. “I want to thank families and staff for following public health measures and for continuing to listen to Dr. Strang and his team.”
The pre-primary centre, which is located on a separate site from the school, will remain open.
If you need to get tested, Public Health’s mobile unit will be set up at the school on Monday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
It will return later in the week.
