We’ll hear from the premier on Wednesday morning regarding his plans to tackle Nova Scotia’s affordable housing problem.
Tim Houston and Housing Minister John Lohr are set to make a housing announcement at 11 a.m.
The municipality recently released a statement saying it’s ready to work with the province, especially if it commits to adopting recommendations from the Affordable Housing Commission.
The commission released a report in the spring offering up seventeen recommendations to the province.
Some of those included recognizing housing as a right, reducing costs, and giving municipalities more power to help.
Members of the opposition have been calling on the premier to address housing over concerns for those living in tents at city parks as the temperatures grow colder.
Houston has said he doesn’t believe permanent rent control is the right solution for the long-term.
He wants to focus on boosting the affordable housing supply.
The current temporary rent cap in place in Nova Scotia is tied to the provincial state of emergency. It’s set to end when that expires or in February, whichever date comes first.
