The province is pumping up its support for foster kids.
The provincial government is spending $34 million over the next three years to redesign the foster care system, and adding an extra $16.7 million each year after that to pay for updated programs.
Marina Keeping, President of the Board of Directors, Federation of Foster Families of Nova Scotia, said it’s a good step.
“Being a foster parent is both rewarding and challenging,” she said. “It is encouraging and very much appreciated to see this work in support of foster families move forward.”
The money to foster families is going up to $15/day, with a new model for a stronger support community for foster families, and new foster care placement types including enhanced respite care for children with specialized needs.
The province will also talk to teens in foster care and former foster kids to get their feedback on the system.
