960 people working in healthcare, continuing care, emergency health services, education and other sectors under the provincial vaccine mandate have been put off work for failing to be vaccinated, or report their vaccination status.
That’s about 1.3 per cent of the workforce in those sectors.
93 civil servants are now on unpaid leave as well.
Premier Tim Houston said he’s pleased at the high rate of workers under the vaccine mandate who chose to get the shot.
“The few in both mandates who didn’t get vaccinated have made their choice,” he said. “It’s unfortunate they are no longer in the workplace, but I’m glad they won’t be putting patients, students, seniors and other vulnerable people at risk.”
Any worker under the mandate was required to have the first dose of their COVID-19 vaccination series by Tuesday, with a plan to get a second dose, or be put on unpaid leave.
