Testing for three sexually transmitted infections has been put on pause in Halifax.
The Halifax Sexual Health Centre says the move is due to ramped-up COVID-19 testing.
The centre says the lab will be unable to process STI swabs and urine tests for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and herpes unless you are symptomatic or pregnant.
“We are hoping that this restriction will only be temporary until the current spread has resolved,” the centre says. “We will keep you updated on our social media and website.”
Patients will be treated based on a risk assessment or deferred testing.
The Victoria General STI clinic remains open and will also be using risk assessments.
Walk-in clinics and family doctors have been instructed to do the same.
A two-month pause was put into place in November 2020 as a result of the pandemic.
The centre warned when the service picked back up in January, it would be dependent on the status of the pandemic, with future impacts possible.
