A parking lot in Downtown Dartmouth could soon be the new home of more affordable housing.
The province says it’s offering up a prime piece of land near King Street and the Alderney Ferry Terminal for a mixed-use project.
Develop Nova Scotia is calling for proposals to transform the 5,375 square-metre parcel of land.
“We’ve designed this opportunity to invite the creativity of developers and social impact organizations to bring an innovative approach to building housing that is attainable, sustainable and desirable,” says Develop NS President Jennifer Angel in a news release. “Our goal is to challenge each other to make a valuable development site in the heart of our urban centre work harder to meet the social and environmental needs of our community.”
It’s inviting housing developers, service providers, and community organizations to apply.
The province has committed more than $35 million to create over 1,100 new affordable housing units in Nova Scotia.
It’s reviewing its inventory of provincially owned land to determine what’s best for housing and intends to offer more plots.
