The youngest sister of civil rights activist Viola Desmond has died.
Wanda Robson passed away over the weekend.
Desmond was arrested in 1946 for refusing to leave a whites-only section of a New Glasgow. Her courage inspired our country’s civil rights movement and Robson worked tirelessly to carry on Desmond’s story.
“As an author, activist, and advocate who raised awareness for her sister’s contributions to Canadian civil rights, Wanda Robson helped make this country better and fairer. She leaves behind an extraordinary legacy, and my thoughts are with all who are mourning her passing.” – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
Robson was a long-time resident of North Sydney and was announced to be a recipient of the Order of Nova Scotia in December.
She was 95.
