A Halifax Regional Police officer has been charged with sexual assault.
The Serious Incident Response Team was contacted by police in early December after a woman reported she had been sexually assaulted by the officer in the summer of 2020.
The province’s police watchdog says no information was released to the media at the time to protect the integrity of the investigation.
Thirty-seven-year-old Constable Steven Mason was charged following SiRT’s investigation.
He was scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Tuesday morning.
SIRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia.
