There’s tragic news out of the fishery in Nova Scotia.
A 35-year-old man has died after spending five hours in the water off the coast of Canso.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax reported a fishing boat needed help on Saturday due to engine problems.
The coast guard vessel Jean Goodwill tried to tow the boat to shore but the line broke, leaving the Mucktown Girl adrift.
The next morning, Jeremy Hart of Windsor Junction fell off a life raft as a crew of five were being transferred to a coast guard ship.
He passed away later that day.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help his family.
“Jeremy was such a hard worker, funny and passionate young man that was taken far too soon,” says organizer and family friend Lisa Williams. “The family would never ask anyone for help, but we know that the road ahead will be challenging, and my goal of this fund is to provide financial relief.”
Four other fishers were rescued.
