More details on an emergency alert issued late Friday for the Halifax region.
Police say RCMP responded to a report of multiple shootings in East Preston.
Officers arrived on Brian St., the scene of the most recent shooting, and arrested a 21-year-old man at 7 p.m. Police say officers believed two other men, possibly armed, had run into the woods.
RCMP conducted a major search in the area, and issued an emergency alert asking people in the community to shelter in place and lock their doors just after 8 p.m.
Officers arrested a 26-year-old man who had broken into a home on Cherry Brook Rd. in Cherry Brook after 9 p.m.
The emergency alert was cancelled at 11:30 p.m. but officers stayed in the area overnight. Police say there were no injuries.
Both men were released without charges.
Police have not provided any information on the aforementioned third man, originally suspected to have fled into the woods.
Emergency alert issued after shooting in East and North Preston
Update: 11:30 p.m.
Two people are in custody after a manhunt in the East Preston area.
An emergency alert was issued by the RCMP just after 8 o’clock on Friday night.
It came after two separate shootings in East and North Preston.
Police asked residents in the area to stay inside and lock their doors but those orders have been lifted.
According to the emergency alert, after the shootings two black men ran into the woods behind Brian Street.
In an update after 9 p.m., one of the two men on the run were arrested and additional shots were fired in the Bell Street area in East Preston.
The second man was arrested a few hours later.
No injuries reported and an update is expected on Saturday.
