Halifax Regional Police are advising you to lock your vehicles up after reports of hundreds of break-ins.
Police have received 237 reports of thefts from vehicles throughout the region over the last month.
They say regardless of where you park, there are simple steps you can take to protect your valuables.
Police recommend locking your car, even when it’s parked in the driveway or garage, and making sure you take your purse and wallet with you.
They also advise you against leaving any valuables inside your vehicle, especially not in plain sight.
Another tip, leave the outside lights on at your home or have motion sensors activated during the night.
Police add if you think your car has been broken into you can file a report online or by calling 902-490-5016.
“If your license plate or government identification is stolen, it is important to report it to police immediately,” a news release says.
If you see any suspicious activity around parked cars, like people pulling on door handles, police recommend immediately calling 902-490-5020.
Anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers.
