An investigation is underway by the province’s police watchdog after a man wielding an axe was shot by a Mountie on Thursday morning.
Officers were called to a weapons complaint at a home on Highway 6 in Upper Malagash, Cumberland County at around 7:30 a.m.
The Serious Incident Response Team says officers were told the man was threatening people he knew at the residence.
They found the suspect at the back of the home with the axe in his hand.
SiRT says one of the officers tried to stop him with a taser, but when that didn’t work, they shot him in the leg.
The suspect was taken to the hospital by EHS for non-life-threatening injuries.
No one else at the home was hurt.
