The province is reporting nine new COVID-19 deaths.
The weekly update was released on Thursday for the seven-day period ending on May 30th.
The report shows there were 1,563 new lab-confirmed cases and 41 hospitalizations. The number of new PCR-positive tests and hospitalizations is similar to last week.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang says although the number of new cases has slowed over the last several weeks, it hasn’t stopped.
“We have learned so much about COVID-19 – how the virus is spread, who is at highest risk of severe outcomes, and the personal actions we can take to protect ourselves, our loved ones and each other,” says Strang. “Virus activity has slowed over the last several weeks, but it hasn’t stopped. COVID-19 is here to stay, so we need to continue to keep each other safe.”
The province says all of the COVID-19 deaths reported this week were people 70 years of age or older.
