A courtroom in Nova Scotia heard tragic details about the death of a young We’koqma’q woman in 2018.
Dwight Austin Isadore beat Cassidy Bernard unconscious and then tucked her into bed and tried to cover her face with make-up.
Bernard was looking after the former couple’s twin daughters at the time.
Isadore confessed to the incident to an undercover police officer prior to his arrest and pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 22-year-old’s death on Monday in Port Hawkesbury.
He was originally up on second-degree murder but the charge was downgraded in exchange for the guilty plea.
In addition to manslaughter, Isadore also pleaded guilty to abandoning his infant daughters.
They were found severely dehydrated when Bernard wasn’t seen for days following her death.
Isadore is due back in court July 6 for sentencing.
