More talk of political interference in the investigation into the Nova Scotia mass shootings.
At the public inquiry into the April, 2020 killings of 22 Nov Scotians yesterday, a letter written in April, 2021 by Nova Scotia RCMP communications manager Lia Scanlan was released.
It stated that RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki pointed to political pressure from then federal public safety minister Bill Blair to release details about the firearms used in the shootings ahead of the Liberals passing new gun legislation.
The letter said Lucki was critical of provincial RCMP during a conference call just days after the shooting, because they didn’t provide those details during an earlier news conference.
Scanlan says that Lucki’s conduct in the meeting was ‘appalling, inappropriate, unprofessional, and extremely belittling.’
Lucki, Blair and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau denied allegations of political interference last week.
