The NHL will hold their annual Entry Draft tonight in Nashville, Tennessee, and the Halifax Mooseheads will once again be very well represented with talented players hoping to hear their name called from the draft floor.
Forward Mathieu Cataford headlines the latest crop of prospects developed in Moose Country while rugged defenceman Dylan MacKinnon and 18-year-old forward Markus Vidicek are also in the mix. Cataford has been highly sought after thanks to a strong two-way game that saw him produce great numbers offensively on a deep Mooseheads team last year when he scored 31 goals and 44 assists for 75 points in 68 games played.
Scouts are also salivating at the chance to grab the rights to defenceman Dylan MacKinnon whose size and strength is beyond his age. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound blue-liner from Riverview, NB was Halifax’s top pick in the 2021 QMJHL Entry Draft at fifth overall. He is known for punishing hits, physical ability to clear out opponents from the front of the net.
Finally, there is still a chance for Markus Vidicek to have his name called at the draft after being passed over in his initial year of eligibility in 2022. The forward from Kirkland, QC has been integral to the Mooseheads’ success in his three seasons with the team and is another good two-way player.
