As it turns out, trees might be a bit vengeful. After years of being chopped down and left to slowly dry out as the centerpiece of our holiday traditions, they’ve decided to bite back.
A woman in Ohio is going viral after deciding to get her first – and possibly last – real tree EVER after experiencing a phenomenon known as Christmas Tree Syndrome
It’s an allergic reaction that is caused by mold spores coming from the tree and only affects about 7% of people.
There are ways to reduce the effects of this, as recommended by allergists;
- Hose off the tree to remove pollen and mold and let dry before you bring it inside
- Wear gloves and long sleeves when carrying the tree to avoid sap touching your skin
- Wipe down the trunk of the tree
- Use a leaf blower to remove dust or dead needles
- Discard the tree the day after Christmas
- Use an air purifier in the room with the tree
If all else fails, you may just be safer with a fake tree.
