After much speculation and suspense, Shohei Ohtani has announced he will play for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Japanese professional pitcher and designated hitter had been in talks with multiple Major League Baseball teams.
Friday it was reported the free agent would be signing with the Toronto Blue Jays.
In an Instagram post Saturday, Ohtani apologized for taking so long to come to a decision, saying he has decided to choose the Dodgers as his next team.
The 2-way player thanked the Angels fans who supported him “through all the ups and downs” and said the 6 years he spent with the Angels will remain etched in his heart forever.
According to multiple reports, Ohtani agreed to a record 10-year-contract worth $700 million US with the Dodgers.
Ohtani added on Instagram that he would like to talk more about his decision to join the Dodgers at “a later press conference.”
