For two years in a row our very own Team Canada is celebrating its goals at the World Juniors with a song from Newfoundland and Labrador.
Great Big Sea’s “Ordinary Day” was played on Tuesday after Canada scored it’s first goal of the tournament.
Team Canada takes the process of selecting a goal song very seriously.
The team wouldn’t say how many contenders there were for this year’s song, or what they were, but the debate was a serious process. Managers, players, coaches and other Team Canada staff began offering suggestions on December 9th with the final decision being made on December 21st.
The Great Big Sea song was recommended by Team Canada’s doctor, R.J. MacKenzie, who is from Cape Breton, N.S.
“Ordinary Day” has big shoes to fill after last year’s goal tune, “Heave Away” by Newfoundland and Labrador’s The Fables that had crowds at the Worlds here in Halifax going crazy.
The tune climbed to No. 12 on the Spotify Viral 50 Canada chart by the end of last year’s tournament.
Let’s hope “Ordinary Day” has the same luck as “Heave Away!”
Continued good luck to our Halifax Mooseheads on Team Canada: Jake Furlong from Tantallon, N.S., Jordan Dumais and goalie Mathis Rousseau, a.k.a. The Rooster who face the host Team Sweden on Friday at 2:30 Atlantic time.

Go Canada GOLD!
