Toronto’s Larry Gowan, also simply known as “Gowan” was in town on Sunday, this time as the lead singer of the legendary band STYX!
Tommy Shaw and the band had the soundtrack to my junior high and high school on 1270 CJCB in Sydney.
Their hour and a half set covered many of their classics from the 70’s and 80’s like Come Sail Away”, “Mr. Roboto”, “The Best of Times”, “Too Much Time On My Hands” and many more.
Larry and his little brother Terry Gowan make the Chicago based band 33 percent Canadian. 🇨🇦
Gowan said he hadn’t played the Halifax Metro Centre now Scotiabank Centre since 1987.

He also localized the concert saying “you guys are louder than The Misty Moon!” The long-time bar that had homes around Halifax lastly on Barrington Street. 👌😆
Gowan took a Halifax waterfront walk and checked out “The Last Steps War Memorial” for soldiers departing on ships from Halifax back in the day. It meant a lot to him as his Dad was in the Navy.

Gowan, who’s 67, still had the same energy as the 80’s.

Fredericton’s David Myles did an impressive opening jazzy set with his trio. He spent time here in Halifax where his two daughters were born. He joked that his brothers were both doctors, so to impress his dad, he always wears a suit on stage to impress him.

David ironically received a “Doctorate Degree” from Mount Allison in New Brunswick, so he says he snuck in the back door as a “doctor.”

STYX rocked the hockey rink on a memorable night in Halifax with “The Best of Times” for another “Bucket List Concert” for me to take me back to being a teenager again, like many of us in the crowd.
