A well-known anthem singer is feeling the love from the community.
For the last 15 years, Peter Baylis has been belting out our national anthem at Halifax Mooseheads games.
He recently got difficult news of an aggressive brain cancer diagnosis.
Baylis is unable to work, and the bills have been piling up.
He says it’s clear what the fans and community think of him, because a GoFundMe has raised over $21,000.
“The support is overwhelming. It helps me stand on the shoulders of everyone that’s showing compassion and empathy. My wish is that everyone can be the best version of themselves all the time,” said an emotional Baylis.
Baylis says despite the prognosis, he’s remaining upbeat and hopes his story will help others.
“It’s not that I’m ok with it, because that would be a lie. I could ask questions of fairness and say why me? But emotional reactions are in my control. To ask those questions is counterproductive.”
Baylis says there are no words to express the gratitude, love and support from those who have reached out.
He says his Mooseheads family have also been by his side.
“It’s such a family and they are so passionate about what they do, everything for the city. Everybody could learn from the Mooseheads organization. I’m blessed they took a chance on me.”
