Congratulations to Mike Richards on his retirement today from CKBW in Bridgewater, a part of the Acadia Broadcasting family of radio stations with Hot Country 1035.
After 50 years on-air starting in 1975, and 25 years of waking up the South Shore, plus decades on other Nova Scotia radio stations, Mike has hung up the mic.
Mike and I worked together at 92/CJCH in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s on AM radio, remember that? AM? And we had a blast on a powerhouse radio station with a lot of laughs.

(Above: Mike at 92/CJCH Halifax in 1990.)
He’s a Dartmouth native, also did time on Halifax stations AM 96/CHNS, AM “All Hit Radio” 780 CFDR and SUN-FM, plus time in Hamilton, Ontario briefly.
While there at CJCH, Mike voiced many ATV/ASN (now CTV) commercials and was “The Voice” of ASN movies and programming promotions, doing the TV stations voice-overs for the producers, that included Roxanne. In 1989, he convinced her to ask me out on a date on September 13th!
Almost 36 years later, a couple of awesome boys, three homes and a few Toyotas, we’re still going strong. Thanks “Cupid Mike!”

Have a listen to Mikes sign off this morning:
Enjoy sleeping in and getting rid of that “stupid o’clock” alarm and we’ll see ya somewhere on a beach.
Happy Retirement to one of the smoothest announcers to ever grace the airwaves and a Nova Scotia radio legend, you’ll be missed on-air on the South Shore.
-Ian
