Happy 50th anniversary today to 1410 CIGO now known as 1015 – The Hawk in Port Hawkesbury, a part of our Hot Country 1035 Acadia Broadcasting family of radio stations.
At 12:15pm on October 29, 1975, CIGO went live with a power of 10 thousand watts on the AM dial at 1410.

You can see some CIGO history and hear an excerpt from the launch 50 years ago by clicking HERE.

I listened to AM 1410 CIGO growing up while visiting at my relatives in Richmond County and years later paid visits to see my radio buddies that worked there like, Bob, Paul, Kevin, Darcy, and Ian. Great memories!
In Grade 9 Graphics Class in 1979-80 at Dr. T.L. Sullivan in Florence, Cape Breton, I made this CIGO radio graphic below, I was the only radio geek in the class…

In the mid 1980’s I was lucky enough to be the voice of some of the CIGO station identifications/commercials.

Above: Owners at the time in 2000, Bob and Brenda MacEachern with Gordie Sampson at the official switch to FM and the launch as 1015 The Hawk.
Happy 50th to 1410 CIGO/1015 The Hawk, here’s to to another 50 and thanks for the soundtrack to getting us across the Causeway and onto Cape Breton Island!
