It’s the end of an era, in a statement released by the Toronto Blue Jays’ today, Buck Martinez, who’s 77 has officially announced his retirement from broadcasting ahead of the upcoming 2026 season, which will be the Jays’ 50th.
This marks the end of an incredible career for the California native, who first joined the Jays franchise in trade in 1981.
In a statement Buck says: “After the World Series, my wife Arlene and I had plenty of time to think about the past and look forward to our future. After many heartfelt conversations, we both decided it was time for me to step out of the booth and enjoy the years ahead.”
He began his broadcasting career shortly after retiring from Major League Baseball following the 1986 season.
Ultimately he ended up calling over 4,000 Blue Jays games across multiple stints over the past four decades.
Gonna miss your voice, Buck, listening to the games at Queensland Beach or on the back deck.
