It wasn’t the big send off we’ve come to expect in Halifax as the crew on HMCS Fredericton departed on Saturday for a six-month deployment
The crew will take part in NATO exercises into North Atlantic and European waters.
It’s the vessels first mission since it returned following a tragic helicopter crash that killed six members of the Royal Canadian Navy in the Ionian Sea.
Three of those members were from Nova Scotia.
Because of COVID-19 restrictions that remain in place, family and friends weren’t allowed to gather to send off the crew.
HMCS Fredericton is expected to return by Christmas.
