It has been devastating to watch Afghanistan fall to the Taliban.
The speed at which these events have occurred….the hopelessness we feel as Afghans attempt to flee…the horror of seeing decades of progress, particularly the advancements in education and welfare of women, gone so quickly.
As a civilian, this is hard to stomach. We cannot even comprehend what it must feel like for the Military members within our Province – and, especially, for those who served in Afghanistan.
We wanted to hear how members of our Military are feeling. Are they angry? Are they hopeless? Is the general attitude: “what was the point?”
Barry Pitcher is a local RCMP Officer, and Infantry Officer with the Canadian Forces Infantry Reserves (Lieutenant Colonel as Commanding Officer of the Princess Louise Fusiliers). He’s also an all-around WONDERFUL human AND a GREAT coach – just ask anyone who takes his classes at Orange Theory New Bedford!).
He also served in Afghanistan in 2007.
We asked Barry how HE is feeling, watching the events of the last couple weeks unfold, and here is what he had to say:
We are so grateful to Barry Pitcher for taking the time to talk to us today.
Our hearts are with the Veterans, and the Military families, who are hurting this week. And our hearts are with the people of Afghanistan.
We know this isn’t the usual silly games and fun that you expect from Melody & Forman, but some things are just too important.
